NGMA by Gopher Models
The NGMA was a conversion of the NGBA(BWH) and NGBF(FWH) in 1987. They were modified when OH&S regulations required a safer workplace. Their timber walkways were replaced with galvanised steel mesh around the perimeter of the roof. Bogie changes allowed for increased loads. Some were painted in PTC blue and others in SRA red livery.
In late 2003 Pacific National converted a prototype gravel wagon from NGMA 29289. The roofwas removed, the chassis strengthened, air operated discharge doors fitted and 50t bogies were replaced with 70t bogies.the wagon was a success and is used on the Boral train from Dunmore to Enfield/Cooks River. Freight Australia converted some to VHBF to run rice from NSW to Victoria and PN upgraded about 20 to a Mineral and Sand Hopper and coded them RHJY in 2006.
The conversion is easy to do, just glue the 3D printed top to the FCH hopper, then reverse the ladder and bracing etch on the end of the wagonto match the handrails holds on the walkway. Paint, decal then weather to your liking and the job is done.
